Backpacking 101

This is an overnight backpacking trip into the Walls of Jericho, less than an hour from Huntsville, AL! If you’re new to backpacking, or never done it at all, this adventure is for you! Your registration includes a 2-day, 1-night backpacking adventure, food on the trail, and training on how to do backpacking right. 

We’ll meet at the Walls of Jericho hiker’s trail head (Estill Fork, AL) at 12:00 noon on Saturday and hike about 3 miles into our camping area. We’ll setup camp, then day hike from there back to the falls, then return to camp. On Sunday, we’ll break camp in the morning and hike another 3 miles uphill, finishing between 12:00 and 1:00 PM.

You’ll learn the basics of backpacking including:

• Getting the right gear
• How to pack your backpack
• How to adjust a backpack
• Selecting the right footwear
• How to hike properly
• How to setup camp
• How to filter water
• How to pack and cook meals on the trail
