- Description
Imagine spending a week in Peru exploring one of the most iconic, ancient treasures of the world, Machu Picchu! Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Its exact former use remains a mystery. But it's a bucket list item for any serious hiker! We'll spend 2 days exploring Cusco and Ollantaytambo as we acclimate to the high altitudes before our hike. Then on Day 3, we hit the trail for 4 days, visiting ancient Inca ruins each day, finally reaching Machu Picchu on our final day. The following day, we'll enjoy a leisure day in Cusco. On our final day, we'll hike a short 2.5 miles to the top of spectacular Rainbow Mountain for spectacular photo opps!
