Trail Description:
Day 1: We fly into San Francisco by noon on arrival day. (Airfare not included.) We’ll leave the airport and head out for the Crabtree trailhead (elev. 7,145 ft.) stopping for a bite to eat on the way. We’ll hit the trail around 5:00 PM and hike East through a Sierra Pine forest, then along a ridge, finishing a short 3.7 miles at Grouse Lake (elev. 7,100 ft.) for our first night.
Day 2: We’ll continue hiking East some 8 miles through Groundhog and Buck Meadow. We’ll stop for lunch along Cherry Creek, then on to Wood Lake, finally finishing a long day at the incredible Deer Lake, (pictured above) the highest elevation of our trip at 8,461 ft. where we’ll camp for the night.
Day 3: We’ll hike 9.5 miles west past Jewelry Lake and Gem Lake, stopping for lunch at Piute Lake. Than continue west through Piute Meadow, cross Piute Creek, then continue on to Camp Lake, finally finishing at our destination, Bear Lake. (elev. 7,680 ft.)
Day 4: It’s a quick 3.6 mile day back to the Crabtree trailhead, where our vehicles will be waiting. We’ll drive back to San Francisco staying at one of the hotels (reservation not included) close to the airport. We’ll head into town that evening to enjoy an amazing dinner where we’ll share our highs and lows from the trip.
Day 5: We fly back to our homes with new friendships and new memories that can only be forged over 4 days in the Sierra wilderness together!
*Your registration does NOT include airfare to San Francisco, ground transportation to the trailhead, or hotel lodging in San Francisco. However, we can help you arrange rental carpooling.
